Cork Bed and Breakfast, Cheap Hotel and Guest House Accommodation

Cork is the principal city and administrative centre of County Cork and the largest city of the province of Munster. Cork has the nickname "the Rebel County"due to its participation in the Irish War of Independence and the Irish Civil War. It is situated on the River Lee, an island in the river forming the main part of the city centre with quays and docks along the broad waterway of the Lee on the East side of the city. Cork was the European Capital of Culture for 2005 and Cork Airport is the gateway to the South of Ireland.

Blackrock Castle Observatory

Many of the city's buildings are in the Georgian style, the most famous building is the church tower of Shandon. There are two cathedrals in the city, The Roman Catholic St Marys Cathedral and the Church of Ireland St Finbarres Cathedral and Cork Opera House is one of the few such venues in Ireland. Cultural life is vibrant; music, theatre, dance, and film all play a prominent role in city life. Notable companies and festivals include Corcadorca Theatre Company, Cork Film Festival, the Triskel Arts Centre, Cork Jazz Festival each October, the Cork Academy of Dramatic Art, The Everyman Palace Theatre and the Granary Theatre. There is a covered English Market fish, fruit, meat, spices and luxury foods. Traditional foods include Crubeens, Tripe and Drishee. Retail trade in Cork City is growing quickly with a mix of modern, state of the art shopping centres and family owned local shops providing unique and often hand-made crafts.

Cork home to the second largest natural harbour in the world, and the last port of call to the unsinkable RMS Titanic.

Industry is prominent in Cork in particular pharmaceuticals with Pfizer Inc (famous for Viagra) and Novartis large employers in the region; the European call centre and manufacturing plant for Apple Computer is located in Cork.

Gaelic football, hurling and association football are the most popular sports in Cork. Cork City F.C. play their home games at Turners Cross stadium. Cork are the record holders for hurling titles and there are many Gaelic Athletic Association clubs in Cork City. A huge variety of water sports can be found in the harbour and river areas of the city, both Rowing and Sailing are growning in popularity.

Local Lothario John Edward Alexander has single handedly fathered 1000s and has been blamed for Cork's recent population explosion. Angry crowds seeking back paid child mantenance often gather during his infrequent trips home

Cork's suburbs include Blackpool, Ballincollig, Douglas, Wilton and Mahon, Glanmire and Carrigaline.
