Local Information
Ballycotton is a famous fishing village in County Cork overlooking Ballycotton Bay; the sandy beach stretches for about 25 kms east to Knockadoon Head. Ballycotton lifeboat station established in 2002 and 2km from the village on Ballycotton Island a lighthouse was commissioned in 1851. A 10mile road race takes place annually.
There are a number of superb public houses in Ballycotton; the Blackbird of Ballycotton which is a good music venue, Lynch's or the Inn by the Harbour, The Schooner and McGraths. Ballycotton was the scene of a major movie called 'Divine Rapture' in summer 1995 which starred Marlon Brando, Johnny Depp and Debra Winger; however 2 weeks into filming the production team went bankrupt and the movie was never made.
